Did you know there is another ballot referendum on November 5?
This is the question you'll see on your ballot this November:
“Eligibility to vote. Shall section 1 of article III of the constitution, which deals with suffrage, be amended to provide that only a United States citizen age 18 or older who resides in an election district may vote in an election for national, state, or local office or at a statewide or local referendum?”

Shall section 1 of article III of the constitution, which deals with suffrage, be amended to provide that only a United States citizen age 18 or older who resides in an election district may vote in an election for national, state, or local office or at a statewide or local referendum?”
Door County Indivisible encourages a "no" vote on this question. For more details and information on the issue, here is a website explaining what the Republican State Legislature is up to on this amendment to our Constitution.

Editorial From Indivisible member:
Door County is a bellwether county and routinely votes for the winning candidates from either party at both the national and state level. As I observe and research issues and candidates for the November 5 election, I have become increasingly concerned about civility, truth and the preservation of our national and state constitutions, voting rights and democracy. As an admin for multiple pages on social media, I try to frequently (usually daily) consult multiple news channels, social media platforms and print media prior to posting. In recent weeks, I have seen an increase in intimidation, threats, inaccuracies, election denial claims, name-calling and falsehoods in the media.
Have you watched the Peninsula Pulse Podcast with Renee Paplham and Joel Kitchens, Assembly District #1 Candidates, on Political Unity? The interview is a good example of what we need to strive for not just as a democracy, but also as individuals, if we are to remain sane through November 5. If you have not watched it, I strongly encourage you to listen. https://soundcloud.com/doorcountypulse/political-unity-with-joel-kitchens-renee-paplham
After listening to the Podcast and gathering information on the issues, I will vote for Renee Paplham because I believe that she will represent ALL Door County residents in Assembly District #1 equally and fairly.
Wisconsin Public Radio asked hundreds of Wisconsin residents what issues were most important to them. Two-hundred forty-three candidates were questioned; 130 responded. Most of those who did not respond were Republicans, including Joel Kitchens and Tony Wied. Why is that?
Renee Paplham's response on the identified issues of Cost of Living, Education, Health Care, Abortion and the Environment in the link below most closely align with my values. I hope you will learn more about Renee on the issues and support her bid for election in Assembly District #1.

On the basis of Kitchens' voting record on the issues since 2015, I find at https://justfacts.votesmart.org that his and the GOP-controlled Assembly's voting record do not align with my values. Nor do they support legislation or funding that support the majority of Wisconsinites.
1. Joel Kitchens is endorsed by the National Rifle Association (NRA) (Ratings and Endorsements) The reason? Republicans, including Kitchens, lowered the age for concealed carry to 18 from 21 and now allow permit-holders to carry guns in vehicles on school grounds.
2. Republicans in GOP-controlled finance committee refuse to release $125 million allocated to combat PFAS in the state budget passed last year. PFA's are a major environmental concern.
3. $15.5 million in conservation project for land stewardship were illegally withheld for spending by GOP majority. The Wisconsin Supreme Court found they could no longer be withheld.
4. Medicaid expansion could save Wisconsin voters $1.7 billion in the next 2 years. Up to 90,000 Wisconsin residents could get better health insurance if Wisconsin agrees to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, and rural residents would be the most likely to benefit. Republicans in the Assembly refuse to do so.
5 Joel Kitchens sponsored a more restrictive abortion Bill 975 with these words. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IinEO9BZ3U4
6. GOP Budgeting and Bills for Wisconsin Public Schools have shown the 3rd lowest growth in the nation due to flat school revenue spending, an increase in funding for school vouchers and revenue cap limits which have resulted in expanding referendums for basic capital expenditures. Wisconsin ranks 43rd out of 50 for public funding of Higher Education.
7. For the first time since 2011, Wisconsin will have Fair Maps. Vote for Democratic candidates for all offices to maintain a free and fair election.

Joel Kitchens LWVGGB Interview Kitchens chose not to respond
As I drive across Door County, I see lots of signs that say, “Vote for Democrats, they vote for us!” Right now, who is voting for “us” in Wisconsin’s 1st Assembly District? Think about it. Currently we are represented by Joel Kitchens, who has been in office since 2015. When he began as our representative, he was receptive to feedback and considered suggestions made to him but as time has gone on, he seems to have forgotten the people here, adopted the MAGA attitude and now disappointingly follows the dictates of the Republican party. Joel acknowledges that this is a purple district, but his campaign literature says he’s passed all kinds of legislation highlighted by the right. Our founding fathers established the ideal that legislators should take their turn of duty as citizens and not overstay their time in office.
It’s time for a new voice in the Assembly from District #1. This year we have an outstanding young woman running for office who is a professional mediator! We need Renee Paplham in the Assembly to help make those across-the-aisle deals that Wisconsinites keep talking about. What a gift we could send to the entire state delivering her to represent us! She’s a Democrat who will vote for us! Take time to get acquainted with her: Paplham for Assembly.
